How do you pronounce your name?

My name is pronounced Joe-Z-L, growing up in a Spanish household the "Y" has a "J" sound, so that carried over into how I say my name in english.

When did you first create the Sicklings & The Orphans?

I first created the Sicklings in the winter of 2011, and they started as 2D paintings. It wasn't until later that year that I created them in a 3D form.  The Orphans first appeared in the fall of 2011.  In the spring of 2018 I started created them in a 3D form.

Where do you get your inspiration?

I usually get my inspiration from certain lines in a song, movie or just everyday life.  Growing up my mom had a fascination with the occult, supernatural and antiques which all played a huge role in what I currently do.  Edward Gorey's intro for the PBS show "Mystery" also made a long lasting impression in my artistic style.

What medium do you work in?

The Orphans always start as a pencil sketch.  When I am happy with the drawing/composition I then scan and recreate the illustration in photoshop where I do all the crosshatching using a Wacom Tablet, line by line.  For the Sicklings I usually have an idea in my head then go push clay around until I'm happy with the shape and feel.  I hand cast and paint all my resin figures as well for both the Sicklings and The Orphans.

Are you open for commissions?

I'm rarely open for commissions.  Between conventions, gallery shows, shop updates and everything that comes with running a business, it doesn't give me enough free time.  If you do have a project or an idea that you feel I'm right for, feel free to hit me up and we can always go from there.

Do you ship internationally?

Indeed I do.  Shipping internationally can be a tricky thing so I try to use a reasonable flat rate price with limited tracking.

When will my order ship?

I try to ship once a week.  When prepping for conventions/gallery shows things can get backed up a bit and could take an extra week.  If I see that it may take a bit longer I'll try to email you and give you a heads up.  I'm a one man team :)
